Vrindavan 2016.08.21 (VT): The holy city of Radha and Krishna has started preparing to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna. Temples have begun decorating as devotees begin to mob Krishna’s birthplace for the grand celebration.
Thakur Bankey Bihari temple will celebrate the festival of Janmashtami on Aug 25.
The Bihari Ji temple is preparing for the grand celebration as the Goswamis are busy booking orders for dry fruits, sweets, milk, curd, flowers, etc. Other temples especially the Sapta devalaya (Radha Damodar, Radha Shyam Sundar, Radha Raman, Radha Govind Dev, Radha Gopinath, Radha Gokulanand and Radha Madan Mohan) are also preparing to mark the event in an elaborate way. Temples can be seen getting decorated with flowers, lights etc. to make them look more colourful and jolly for the birth of Lord Krishna.
Bihari Ji temple, the Sapta Devalaya and Iskcon Vrindavan will celebrate the birth festival by extensive abhisheks of the deities followed by several cultural events that will take place until Aug 26.
Bihari Ji temple will do the maha-abhishek at midnight followed by mangal arti at 2 am on Aug 26. Bihari Ji temple oraganises mangal arti only once a year, during Janmashtami. The temple will celebrate Nandotsav on Aug 26.
Radha Damodar temple will also do a maha-arti at midnight 12 am on Aug 26 followed by Nandotsav later during the day. “Dadhi Kanda” lila (curd mixed with turmeric) of Lord Krishna will be performed during Nandotsav, in the temple.
Thakur Radha Raman temple will do abhishek of the Lord at midnight with 21 kilogram of milk, along with 54 different types of herbs. Nandotsav will start from 9 am onwards on Aug 26.
Iskcon Vrindavan will organise abhishek and maha-bhog on Aug 25. Later on from 10 pm onwards, Janmashtami will be celebrated amidst Harinam sankirtan inside the temple premises.
