Mathura 2016.08.21 (VT): As the Central Government puts more and more emphasis on a clean India and a better educational system, the Madhopur Government Primary School located hardly half a kilometre from the District Magistrate’s camp office looks more like a cowshed. The school has total of three rooms to accommodate 42 students and couple of teachers who face problems daily reaching the school, which is surrounded by squalor and water logging on every side.
Buffalo and cattle can be seen sitting around the school all the time, and they sleep inside the school premises at nights. Moreover, the Education Department’s neglect means there is no improvement. No officer from the department has visited the school recently to check the educational standards and to take steps accordingly.
Street animals keep wandering into the school all the time as it doesn’t even have a boundary wall. When the midday meal is served a teacher has to stand guard to guard against street animals. Villagers are also concerned about the poor condition of the school and surrounding environment as many students are suffering from seasonal diseases.
Principal Ms. Padma said that they have lodged many complaints with the Education Department, but are still waiting for a response. Generally, the Education Department assigns every school to an officer to periodically inspect the educational standards, but Madhopur Primary School has not as yet been assigned any officer.
