Nandgaon 2016.08.27 (VT): Shri Krishna Janmotsav was celebrated at Nandgaon yesterday unlike at every other place round the world. The Lord took birth a day later at the Nand Bhavan here located at Nandishwar hill. Sants and Goswami’s from Barsana visited Nand Bhavan to do “Samaj gayan” (singing classical Braj songs and rag) and congratulated Nand Baba and Yashoda Maiya for becoming proud parents of Lord Krishna.
While the whole of Braj was celebrating Nandotsav yesterday, Nandgaon celebrated the birth of Lord Krishna. The Goswamis did samaj gayan at around 12:30 pm for around three hours in which they sang traditional poems and Braj songs written by the famous rasiks.
The Sants and Goswamis from Barsana reached Nandgaon at evening time wearing traditional dhoti and bagal bandi (a type of kurta). After that, both the groups of Sants and Goswamis did Samaj Gayan during which they also congratulated Nand Baba and Yashoda Maiya for becoming the parents of Shri Krishna.
The Goswamis from Barsana also distributed laddoo which they brought from Barsana especially for the occasion. Later at around 10 pm, Nand Baba’s family tree was recited to everyone gathered for the celebration.
At midnight the Goswamis did panchamrit abhishek of the deities to mark the birth of Lord Krishna. But the doors remained closed during the abhishek, in keeping with the tradition.
The main altar was opened after half an hour of abhishek so that devotees from around the world could get the blessings of Lord.
