Gokul 2016.09.12 (VT): The road connecting Gokul to Sadabad was built in the month March-April this year, but hasn’t lasted even six months after becoming operational. The information was revealed after a local resident of Gokul filed a complaint with the city administration.
The road was earlier built six years back when the then Mayawati lead BSP Government approved crores of rupees for the construction. Though the road didn’t last for more than two years and was reduced to potholes even then.
After around 4 years, the construction again started in two phases. The first phase included construction of road from Lakshmi Nagar to Gokul, which was built at a cost of 13 crore rupees. The second phase included constriction of 21 kilometres long road from Gokul to Sadavad via Mahavan and Baldev. The first 4 kilo metres of this road was constructed from cement after huge protest from residents, rest 17 kilometres were made from concrete, which was finished in the month of April 2016 and costed 23 cores of Government funds.
Locals said that the second phase of this proposed construction was so bad, especially after the cemented road, that the road started eroding even before the construction finishes. Superintending Engineer S. K. Agarwal inspected the area and has instructed Public Works Department (PWD) to reconstruct the road as soon as possible, which again will cost crores of rupees to the Government.
I.P. Sharma (Executive Engineer at PWD) said that the reconstruction has already been started and 8 kilometres of road is already getting repaired. Apart from that roads at all other area in the region are also getting repaired. But villagers have alleged that only 3 kilometres of road is getting reconstructed, of which the process is at very early stage.
PWD has also released a statement mentioning that the balance payment to the previous contractor has been stopped till further investigation.
