Rawal 2016.09.18 (VT): Central Government’s initiative of providing washrooms to every Indian turned to be a nightmare when a person converted it into a temple; that too in the village adopted by MP Hema Malini.
Panchayati Raj Vibhag selected Rawal under the Swachh Bharat initiative under which every villager was provided by a washroom outside their houses. Block coordinator Amit Choudhary and secretary Ram Pratap Singh also ran a campaign to aware the villagers about the drawbacks and health hazards of going in open for toilet.
Few days back, same team came back to inspect the washrooms made under the scheme but found that many of them are not being used by anyone. When the team reached toilet no. 43, they found the doors closed. Toilet owner Dharmpal informed the team that the toilet has been locked as its being used by them, but the Government team forced him to open the lock for self inspection. To their surprise, they found images of deities all over the washroom, including one right beside the toilet seat.
Finding the reality, Mr. Chaoudhary scolded the toilet owner for disgracing the Lord as well as mis-utilising the public facility. Further inspections also found that as the constriction service was free, one villager got two washrooms constructed outside his house, leading to mis-utilisation of Government funds.
75 washrooms were constructed in Rawal by the NGO Sulabh International earlier this year. There are a total of 150 houses in Rawal, out of which 8 still doesn’t have toilet. Also, many villagers also still go out in open despite having washroom at home.
