South East Asia’s major NGO “Wild Life – SOS”, which is working for towards the rights of wild animals, freed Mohan from a village near Lucknow, after two years long legal battle. As soon as the NGO got the custody of Mohan, they brought him to ECCC where Phoolkali welcomed him with “freedom” written flag. One more elephant bythe name “Raju” too welcomed Mohan by hooting loudly.

Animal activist Dr. Yaduraj Kadpekar said that Mohan and Raju were captive of same person from the past five decades. The ex owner of these elephants killed their mother and abducted these elephants when they were children. Later on they were forced to beg in the villages around Lucknow.

Dr. Kadpekar further said that the ex-owner of Mohan and Raju used to chain them and beat them, which can be verified from the numerous wound marks on their bodies. Raju got freed in the year 2014, but Mohan took few more years to be freed. 55 years old malnourished Mohan never got adequate food also from his ex-owner.

Founder of “Wild Life-SOS” NGO Mr. Kartik Satya Narayan and Ms. Gita Sheshmani said that now Mohan can live with his 22 mates in the favourable environment. He will also be healthy soon under the guidance of experts from ECCC.
