Mathura 2016.09.26 (VT): Lord Shiv and Goddess Parvati got married yesterday during the Ram Leela celebration at Shri Krishna Janmsthan. The barat (groom’s wedding procession) of Lord Shiva was staged during the series of Ram Leela which started on Sep 25.

The leela staged yesterday showcased the birth of Goddess Parvati at the castle of King Himvan and Queen Menavati. Narad Muni, the great sage, reached the castle of King to forecast the future of Goddess during which he told that the girl will get married to Lord Shiv, who is the Lord of Ghosts.

Later on during the drama, Goddess Parvati saw a dream and told her mother about it. She said that a beautiful sage came in my dream and said that whatever Narad Muni has said is true and that you should start meditating accordingly. Goddess said that the sage in dream also said that it will nullify all the evils in and around Devi Parvati.

Later, Parvati undertook severe penance to win over Shiva. Through her devotion and persuasion by sages devas, Parvati, also known as Uma, was finally able to lure Shiva into marriage and away from asceticism. Their marriage was solemnized a day before Amavasya in the month of Phalgun.

The leela concluded by the barat of Lord Shiva and its welcoming by King Himvan, amid loud cheers from the devotee audience at Shri Krishna Janmsthan.
