Vrindavan, 2017.06.03 (VT): The traffic situation in Vrindavan is dire. The narrow, charming lanes of Krishna’s town are too small to accommodate car traffic. Even two auto rickshaws travelling in different directions can create a traffic jam in many places.
The great number of pilgrims driving to the city may be good for the economy, but it has made commuting a nightmare for residents.
Now the government has banned outside cars completely.
The ban was attempted before, but now improved parking facilities are giving the concept a better chance of success. Police will be stationed at the parking areas, located near the edge of town, to ensure maxium safety. E-rickshaws and other small vehicles will shuttle pilgrims from the parking area into the town.
The process will be further refined in the coming days.
Mathura DM Arvind Malappa Bangari said that residents of Vrindavan will soon receive special passes, allowing them to drive in and out of the city freely. The local people should not experience any kind of inconvenience, he said.
