Vrindavan, 2017.11.11 (VT): At Vrindavan’s Prem Mandir, basic necessities were distributed to 9,000 sadhus, sadhvis, and widows. Organized by the Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat (JKP), the distribution spanned a two-day period from November 9th to 10th.
Thursday’s distribution was dedicated to the male sadhus, while widows and sadhvis were served on Friday. First a delicious feast of prasad was served, after which each person received a large bag full of necessary items like a blanket, warm shawl shawl, winter coat, bedsheets, other clothing, a towel, soap and so forth.
The presidents of the Parishat, Dr. Vishakha Tripathi, Dr. Shyama Tripathi and Dr. Krishna Tripathi, personally assisted with the distribution. Special arrangements were also made so disabled persons could attend the function comfortably.

According to a temple spokesperson, “Most people in Vrindavan live in dire conditions. When the cold winter months approach, many do not even have warm blankets and clothing. The cold weather will bring very severe suffering to those who are not prepared. Thus we wanted to ensure that these women [and men] have what they need to survive the harsh conditions.”
An estimated 5,000 sadhus attended the Thursday distribution while about 4,000 sadhvis and widows attended on Friday. (V)
