Mathura, 2018.03.01 (VT) A RS 200 crore (US$32 Million) contract signed at the UP Investors Summit in Lucknow last month will see a private company provide a helicopter service linking Major cities to Mathura. In the initial stage of the project, the helicopter will run from Lucknow, Delhi, Agra and Allahabad to Mathura, Ayodhya, Varanasi and CM Yogi Adityanath’s home town – Gorakhpur.

If the helicopter service is popular, it will be expanded to other cities in future, but, the first phase of the project will see the linking of the three main pilgrimage destinations Mathura, Ayodhya and Varanasi as part of the Yogi government’s promise to develop the pilgrimage destinations of Uttar Pradesh.

Civil Aviation Minister Nand Gopal Gupta signed the contract and is hoping that the helicopter service, which has been talked about since 2012 and was expected to become operational in 2017, will begin services this year.
