Model city development project closer to execution in Vrindavan

Vrindavan, 2016.01.23 (VT): The model city concept is closer to execution in Vrindavan, as the Divisional Commissioner of Agra chaired a meeting to prepare a work plan for it. The meeting was convened at the conference room of the Mathura Vrindavan Development Authority in Mathura in which suggestions were sought from various stakeholders from Vrindavan. The meeting was represented by various government departments of Mathura, NGO’s ashrams and temples of Vrindavan.

Shri Pradeep Bhatnagar, the Divisional Commissioner of Agra informed the delegates that the UP State Government has selected seven cities to develop them as a model city. Vrindavan is also selected as one of the model cities. A holistic plan for the pilgrimage town of Vrindavan will be prepared under this project. A committee headed by the District Magistrate will be formed which will monitor the progress of the execution of the plan.

Shri Anoop Kumar Shrivastava Joint town planner of Agra gave the presentation of the model city. He disclosed the vision of the state government for the sustainable development of Vrindavan. Shri Shrivastava noted down the suggestions given by the delegates who participated the meeting.

Shri Anoop Shrivastava said, “There has not been any extra funding allotted for the Model cities development project. The funds will be spent by the various departments from their regular budget. It is simply about the coordinated efforts by the government departments to make Vrindavan a model city. In case if there is a shortage of fund it can be compensated by the Department of the Urban Development.”

Traffic management, waste management, infrastructure development, Environment Protection, Restoration of the heritage sites, affordable housing and Public Security were some of the components of the model city development plan.

The delegates who went from Vrindavan stressed the need of building the approach road which connects Vrindavan with the Yamuna Express way, so that the traffic movement on the Parikrama Marg can be diverted. They also suggested developing the ‘kuccha parikrama marg’ which could be walkers friendly. The District Magistrate Shri Rajesh Kumar assured that he had sent the proposal of building the approach road to the government. It is in the final stage and the file is in the Chief Ministers office. Once the budget is approved the building of the road will begin.

Nature walks, Wetland development, Peacock sanctuary, Improvement in the rail transport, frequent bus services, separate mobile application from the tourism department were the other suggestions came from the representatives of the civil society.

The Vice Chairman of the Mathura Vrindavan Authority will be the Nodal Officer for this project. If anyone wants to give suggestions regarding the making of the model cities may give their suggestions by visiting the MVDA office or on the Face book page of the Mathura Vrindavan Development Authority.

Singh, SP City Shri Shailesh Pandey, District Tourism Officer Shri Anupam Shrivastava, Vrindavan Municipal Chairman Shri Mukesh Gautam, Shri Vineet Narain from the Braj Foundation, Jagannath Poddar from Friends of Vrindavan, Shri Radha Kant Das from Iskcon, Shri Shrinivas Rao from Akshaya Patra, Shri Guru Prasad Rao from Prem Mandir and others attended the meeting.
