Vrindavan 2016.04.14 (VT): The World Bank is lending 200 crore rupees to develop the area around the world famous Bankey Bihari temple, with the purpose of boosting tourism. The World Bank’s conservation architect, Ms. Shalini Mahajan, inspected the area on Wednesday to get an idea of the current situation.
The Ahmedabad-based firm ICSI had drafted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) of 200 crore rupees to develop the area, which will take around 18 months starting from September 2016.
Wednesday morning, Heritage Conservation Architect Ms. Shalini Mahajan along with Manish Kumar and Satyendra Pandey from Tourism Directorate Lucknow, ICSI Architect Saniya Seth, City Tourism Office Anupam Srivastava, JE from Electricity Board D.K. Sharma, inspected the area within A 2.5 kilometers radius of Bankey Bihari Temple, on behalf of the World Bank.
The team looked for places to build a multi level parking system in the area. As per the plan, two parking areas at the Kalidah, along with a multi level parking system is to be developed in the Bankey Bihari area. Along with that, illegal constrictions in the area are to be knocked down in order to allow for widening of the roads. A waiting room and refreshment center is also proposed at an empty plot at Biharipura.
Tourism Officer Anupam Srivastava told our correspondent that the 200 crore rupees plan includes redevelopment of roads around Bankey Bihari, redevelopment of the drainage system in the area, multi level parking, facilitating centers for devotees, and better lighting on roads and public areas. He informed that this plan will be executed by Tourism Department with the association of MVDA.
Ms. Mahajan received her degree from the Università IUAV di Venezia. She has worked with UNESCO and the National Monuments Authority, (Ministry of Culture), World Monuments Fund, for whom she was Project Manager for the Mughal Riverfront Gardens of Agra, and the Madhya Pradesh Monuments Project.
