Mathura 2016.07.12 (VT): 26 forest area in and around Mathura were revamped yesterday by planning more that 2.6 lacs small tress yesterday. It was a part of “Van Mahotsav” week, a State Government initiative, which started yesterday by planting more than 5 crore trees around the State.
2,60,450 trees were planted yesterday in Mathura, by the city forest department, NGOs, and schools. 14,000 trees were planted at Ajhai and Ajanauthi, 22,000 at Baroth, 5,500 at Dhaurera, 11,000 at Govardhan, 7,700 at Jhandipur 33,000 at Khitavita, 66,000 at Mont Raja Khader, 5,500 at Nagla Akos, 5,500 at Raal, 11,000 at Shernagar forest area and 27,500 at Tatar Tola.
The trees were all prepared by the forest department in 8 nurseries of Mathura city. Most of the plantations were in rural and semi-urban areas.

1,000 trees were also planted at Jawahar Bagh to revive the lost greenery of the area. Deputy Forest Officer said that the target was met successfully by 6 pm and a report was sent to the State Government about it.
Plantation at Vrindavan and Govardhan
Parmeshwari Devi Dhanuka School and Hazarimal Somani School planted 4,500 trees at Dharaura near Vrindavan. SDM sadar Chandani Singh also became a part of the campaign by planting a tree in the area.
DM Nikhil Chandra Shukla also took part in the campaign by planting tree at Govardhan. Later on around 11,000 trees were planted yesterday near the foothill.
