Vrindavan, 2016.07.26 (V.T.): The celebration of the disappearance day of Shri Loknath Goswami Pada began on Sunday at Shri Radha Gokulananda Mandir under the auspices of Acharya Shrivatsa Goswami ji Maharaj, the sevait of Shri Gokulananda Mandir. This is also called as ‘Dhiyo Dhiyo Mahotsava’. Loknath Goswami disappearance day is celebrated on the eighth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Shravan. A regular discourse by Goswami (Dr.) Achyuta Lal Bhatt is being organized between 5 p.m to 7 p.m to commemorate Shri Loknath Goswami.
Addressing the devotees Acharaya Shrivatsa Goswami ji said, “Shri Loknath Goswami was contemporary of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. When Mahaprabhu took sannyas, Loknath came to Vrindavan. While visiting the places of Krishna’s pastimes, he discovered the deity of Radha Vinod from ‘Kishori Kund’ in the village of Umrao. Loknath Goswami used to carry this deity in a bag hanging on his neck, where ever he went.”
“The celebration of the disappearance days of the saints gives us an opportunity to pay tribute to them. We should remain grateful to these great souls as they showed us the way to elevate our spiritual journey,” said Goswami ji.
In his discourse Goswami (Dr.) Achyut Lal Bhatt said, “When Loknath Goswami was a young man, he went to Navadwip to take shelter of Lord Chaitanya. The Lord asked Loknath to go to Vrindavan, as the Lord himself was going to take Sannyas. Since, Loknath would not be able to bear the pain of seeing the in the robes of a sannyasi and his beautiful hair being cut, the Lord advised him to make a journey to Vrindavan. Shri Loknath Goswami left for Vrindavan along with Bhugarbha Goswami and they were waiting for the Lord to arrive there.”
Dr. Bhatt further added, “After the Lord accepted sannyas, He settled in Puri and left for His South India tour. When Loknath Goswami came to know about this, he immediately left for south India to meet the Lord. As he approached the South India he was informed that Lord had returned to Puri. Loknath Goswami then started for Puri but by that time Lord went to Vrindavan. Loknath Goswami was so eager to meet the Lord that he immediately began his journey for Vrindavan again. Finally, when he arrived in Vrindavan he found, Lord Chaitanya had left for Prayag, after staying two months in Vrindavan. Hearing this Loknath fainted and when he returned to consciousness he decided to go to Prayag the next morning. In the night Lord Chaitanya appeared in his dream and instructed him to stay in Vrindavan, and blessed him to feel the Lord’s presence always.”
Shri Madhumangal Shukla said, “Loknath Goswami had an able disciple in Narottam Das Thakur, who wrote many devotional songs, which are sung in all the Goudiya temples.”
The recitation of the Narottam Thakur Prarthana, Mahamantra Kirtan, Suchak Kirtan are also being performed to commemorate the Shri Loknath Goswami. A grand feast (bhandara) for the Vaishnavas, Brajwasi and saints will be organized on Wednesday in which hundreds of devotees will relish the Mahaprasad of Radha Vinodji and Gokulananda ji.
