Vrindavan 2016.09.21 (VT): Sanjhi Art Festival is being organised at Brahma Kund, Vrindavan this year by The Braj Foundation. This will be the third Sanjhi Festival to be organised by the organisation, which will run for three days from Sep 22 to 24.
The preparations are almost done for hosting the festival at Bramh Kund. The programme will include an exhibition showcasing the Sanjhi art, classical music programme, a stage performance on Sanjhi leela, honouring of Sanjhi artists, sanjhi art competition, etc.
Shri Vineet Narain, the President of the Braj Founation said that in a book named “Mathura-A District Memoir” written by British District Magistrate in early 19th century, he has said that earlier people used to organise Sanjhi festival every year at Bramha Kund during Pitru Paksh. But over a period of time, the tradition was lost and Bramh Kund was also in a pitiable condition.
In the year 2009, the Braj Foundation renovated the Kund and organised Sanjhi Festival reviving the lost tradition of Vrindavan. This year manuscripts and precious pictures of Sanjhi Art will also be showcased with the help of Braj Cultural Research Institute (BCRI).
Shri Laxmi Narayan Tiwari (President at BCRI) said that earlier Brajwasis used to organise so many festivals round the year showcasing the rich tradition of Braj, but most of them are extinct now or are limited to few temples or areas. He further said that the Braj Foundation is doing a nice job in reviving these lost culture. Pandit Shri Krishna Saras and Dhruv Krishna Shukla were also present during the occasion.
